Our 63rd Annual Choir Festival was a blessing.  There were over 670 participants plus a congregation of over 2500 worshipping the Lord.   We received through the offerings for the day over $72,000.  Praise the Lord and thank you for your support.  It is not too late to make a donation through our website or return the envelope you received at the festival.  If you would like to give to the ministries of the Ocean Grove Camp Meeting Association please click HERE. Your support is appreciated.

And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing.  I Corinthians 13:3

Reflection

By John DiGiamberardino

We have so much stuff!  We are currently in the process of moving and my wife and I decided we have too much stuff.  Why do we save some of the things we do?  Is it just for the memories connected to them?  I am in the midst of asking myself again….”Is this something I really need?”

Paul says we can give away EVERYTHING we have to provide food for those in need.  He even goes to the extreme of offering our body as a sacrifice on an altar of fire.  In other words, we could put our very life on the line for someone else….but if it is done with the wrong attitude and motive, it means nothing.

Why do we give?  Some give based on need.  Someone mentions a specific thing with a specific cost and someone says, “I’ll give you the money for it.”  Some give because they are led to give.  They believe in the vision and purpose of certain organizations or ministries and so they respond to support that ministry.  In the local church we are called to tithe.  To give 10% of our income to help that local group of believers achieve God’s mission of making disciples for Jesus Christ.

Sadly some give for attention.  Others give just to make themselves look good.  Some give to feel better about the many things they have and others give thinking it will make up for things they are doing wrong.

Why do you give?  Your time?  Your money?  Yourself?

Paul is encouraging us to make sure we are giving out of a heart of love.  Only then does our giving have true meaning, purpose and benefit.   You could give everything you have saved, everything you have right now, to feed the poor.  But if it is not done with love…it means nothing.

Give today out of God’s love in your heart…not because you have to, not to benefit yourself, but because you choose to help someone else and it does not matter if anyone ever knows what you did.

Hope to see you around town!
