Sunday Night Worship

This past Sunday night was a blessing as we celebrated someone coming to Christ as their Savior.  Pastor Kenneth gave a moving message on how God gave every person a gift that is sufficient, enough, to make a difference for Jesus.  When he opened up the altar for prayer a number of people came forward seeking direction and guidance from the Lord.  One woman responded to God's call on her heart to forgive her sins.  Praise God for the moving the Holy Spirit in this place.

And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.    I Corinthians 13:2

Reflection

By John DiGiamberardino

In I Corinthians 13 Paul shares his own his personal reflection on the importance of love.

I could understand and have the ability to look at the past and figure out the future.  I could know the Bible from Genesis to Revelation.  I could have it memorized and know which verse to use in every situation.  I could be a great Bible teacher or preacher.  I could know that I am right in telling people they are sinners whose destination is not heaven, but if I do not have love it means nothing.

I could even be a person who possesses great faith.  He uses the illustration of being able to make a mountain move.  If your beliefs and confidence are strong enough, you can achieve something difficult or impossible.  But that means nothing it it does not come from a heart filled with love.

"Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”  Matthew 17:20

I remember a few years back when my nephew came to the Ocean Grove.  He grew up in Michigan and it was the first time he had seen the ocean.  He walked down to the ocean and said…"I command you to stop."  He completely believed he could make the waves stop.  And you know what happened?  The waves kept coming in.  So he said…"I command you to not stop."

I could be a person of great faith but if love is not the base, the foundation, it amounts to nothing.

Why do we learn?

Why do we study?

Is it to make more money?

Is it to show I am smarter then someone else?

Is it to impress others or even God?

Let Love be your desire.  Experience God’s Love.  Love others like God loves.  It is the best and greatest gift.

Hope to see you around town!
