“I Sing the Mighty Power of God”

Watts / Gesanbuch der Herzogl / Bolks

I sing the mighty pow’r of God,
that made the mountains rise;

That spread the flowing seas abroad,
and built the lofty skies.

I sing the wisdom that ordained
the sun to rule the day;

The moon shines full at His command,
and all the stars obey.

I sing the goodness of the Lord,
who filled the earth with food;

He formed the creatures through the Word,
and then pronounced them good.

Lord, how Thy wonders are displayed, where’er I turn my eye:

If I survey the ground I tread,
or gaze upon the sky!

There’s not a plant or flow’r below,
but makes Thy glories known;

And clouds arise, and tempests blow,
by order from Thy throne;

While all that borrows life from Thee
is ever in Thy care,

And ev’rywhere that man can be,
Thou, God, art present there.

Amen

*APOSTLES’ CREED

I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; the third day He arose from the dead;

He ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen

“More Love to Thee, O Christ”

Elizabeth P. Prentiss / William H. Doane

More love to Thee, O Christ,
more love to Thee!

Hear Thou the prayer I make on bended knee;

This is my earnest plea:
More love, O Christ, to Thee,

More love to Thee, more love to Thee!

Once earthly joy I craved,
sought peace and rest;

Now Thee alone I seek, give what is best;

This all my prayer shall be:
More love, O Christ, to Thee,

More love to Thee, more love to Thee!

Let sorrow do its work, come grief and pain;

sweet are thy messenger, sweet their refrain,

when they can sing with me:
More love, O Christ, to thee;

More love to Thee, more love to Thee!

Then shall my latest breath
whisper Thy praise;

This be the parting cry my heart shall raise;

This still its prayer shall be:
More love, O Christ, to Thee,

More love to Thee, more love to Thee!

ANTHEM

“Joy in the Morning”

Natalie Sleeth

Joy, there’ll be joy, joy, joy, joy, joy,

There’ll be joy in the morning on that day,

there’ll be joy in the morning on that day,

for the daylight will dawn
when the darkness is gone,

there’ll be joy in the morning on that day.

There’ll be peace and contentment evermore,

there’ll be peace and contentment evermore,

ev’ry heart, ev’ry voice
on that day will rejoice,

there’ll be peace and contentment evermore.

And the glory, glory, glory of the Lord
will shine, shine upon us.

And the glory, glory, glory of the Lord
will bring the truth divine.

There’ll be love and forgiveness ev’rywhere,

There’ll be love and forgiveness ev’rywhere,

and the way of the Lord
will that day be restored,

there’ll be love, sweet love ev’rywhere.

There’ll be joy, joy, joy, joy, joy,

there’ll be joy in the morning,
there’ll be joy on that day,

with the bright dawn, night gone,
there’ll be joy, joy, joy!

There’ll be peace and contentment evermore,

There’ll be peace and contentment evermore,

Ev’ry heart, ev’ry voice will together rejoice,

there’ll be peace, peace, peace.

And the glory, glory, glory of the Lord will shine, shine upon us.

And the glory, glory, glory of the Lord will bring the truth divine.

There’ll be love and forgiveness ev’rywhere,

There’ll be love and forgiveness ev’rywhere,

and the way of the Lord
will that day be restored,

there’ll be love, and forgiveness,
there’ll be peace and contentment,

there’ll be joy, joy, joy, joy — JOY!

*CLOSING HYMN

“On Jordan’s Stormy Banks”

S. Stennett / Trad. arr. R.M. McIntosh

On Jordan’s stormy banks I stand,
and cast a wishful eye

to Canaan’s fair and happy land,
where my possessions lie.

I am bound for the promised land,

I am bound for the promised land;

oh, who will come and go with me?

I am bound for the promised land.

O’er all those wide extended plains
shines one eternal day;

there God the Son forever reigns,
and scatters night away.

I am bound for the promised land,

I am bound for the promised land;

oh, who will come and go with me?

I am bound for the promised land.

No chilling winds nor poisonous breath
can reach that healthful shore;

sickness and sorrow, pain and death,
are felt and feared no more.

I am bound for the promised land,

I am bound for the promised land;

oh, who will come and go with me?

I am bound for the promised land.

When shall I reach that happy place,
and be forever blest?

When shall I see my Father’s face,
and in his bosom rest?

I am bound for the promised land,

I am bound for the promised land;

oh, who will come and go with me?

I am bound for the promised land.

BENEDICTION

Amen
