Programming starts Monday, June 24, 2024 and ends Saturday, August 24, 2024.



All classes are for adults 18 and older and are taught by licensed group fitness instructors who hold a current CPR certification. Must register and pay for classes online before attending. Exercise mats are not provided.

Outdoor classes are weather dependent.
The Senior Fitness Program on Tuesdays and Saturdays is held indoors in an air conditioned space, and is geared to adults 60+, regardless of their fitness level.

All classes Monday - Friday at 8am are held weather dependent at Embury Avenue and Ocean Avenue on the boardwalk. Tuesday's Senior Fitness class is in the Community Room and Saturday's Senior Fitness class is at Thornley Chapel (side door). Check local social media sites for weather-related location changes.

Class Descriptions


HIIT

High-intensity interval training, is a training technique that features varying intervals of intense cardio and/or strength exercises paired with active recovery. This type of training gets and keeps your heart rate up and burns more fat in less time. It is designed for men and women who want cardio+body weight training to get in shape and feel great.  Please wear appropriate footwear, and bring an exercise mat and a water bottle.

Pilates

Mat-based Pilates class focuses on strength, stability, posture, proper breath control, and flexibility. Each class will work to balance all muscle groups’ strength and flexibility, with an emphasis on challenging the core muscles with each movement. Classes will be taught using slow, controlled movements. Modifications are suggested for beginners or for those with physical limitations. Mat Pilates is a challenging yet safe method to lengthen and sculpt your body and to feel increased agility in your everyday movements. Please bring an exercise mat and a water bottle. Wear appropriate exercise clothing and non-slip socks if you like to take your shoes off.

Senior Fitness Classes

Senior Fitness: “LaBlast” Chair – Tuesdays

Grab a seat and experience the latest in chair fitness.  Inspired by “Dancing with the Stars,” this motivating dance fitness class blends ballroom dancing and gentle weight training with simple, easy-to-follow patterns designed specifically for the aging population.  Like all LaBlast® formats, LaBlast® Chair Fitness can be adapted for all levels.  Whether you prefer to dance standing up and using the chair for balance, or seated the whole time, you’ll surely have a blast!

Senior Fitness – Saturdays

This class includes light cardio and focuses on strengthening muscles and increasing range of movement for daily life activities.  We provide full water bottles as small hand-held weights, resistance bands and soft 9-inch balls. Often a chair is used for seated exercises or standing support. This program is for seniors ages 60 and older, but younger ages may like to do the class with their own hand weights. Please wear appropriate footwear and exercise clothing. Bring a water bottle for hydration and get ready to feel stronger.

Strength Training

Open to adults of all ages and abilities, this class is designed to increase physical strength through weight-bearing and resistance exercise. We’ll work all major muscle groups using a variety of equipment, and the instructor will modify to make sure you get the strength workout that is right for you.  You must bring your own mat and water bottle; you may bring your own weights if you have them.

Zumba

It won’t feel like you're working out, but you will get sweaty.   Lose yourself in the upbeat Christian or Latin music and find yourself in amazing shape at this dance-style fitness class. Our high-energy instructors will start your feet moving to the rhythm so you can get into great shape and have fun doing it.  This class is for men and women of all ages who aren’t afraid to dance like nobody's watching.  Taught by a Licensed Zumba Instructor.Please wear appropriate footwear and exercise clothing; bring a water bottle for hydration and an attitude of fun.
