CALL TO WORSHIP

Kelly Mooij

Development Committee Chair,
Ocean Grove Camp Meeting Association

Inspired by Psalm 23

Leader: Lord, You are my shepherd,
I lack nothing.

People: You make me lie down
in green pastures.

Leader: You lead me beside quiet waters.

People: You refresh my soul.

Leader: You guide me along the right paths for Your name’s sake.

People: Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil.

Leader: For You, Lord, are with me.
Your rod and Your staff:
they comfort me.

People: Surely Your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in Your house forever.

*HYMN

“Jesus Shall Reign”

Isaac Watts / John Hatton

Jesus shall reign where’er the sun

Does its successive journeys run;

His kingdom spread from shore to shore,

Till moons shall wax and wane no more.

To Jesus endless prayer be made,

And endless praises crown His head;

His name like sweet perfume shall rise

With every morning sacrifice.

People and realms of every tongue

Dwell on His love with sweetest song;

And infant voices shall proclaim

Their early blessings on His name.

Blessings abound where’er He reigns;

All prisoners leap and loose their chains;

The weary find eternal rest,

And all who suffer want are blest.

Let every creature rise and bring

Honors peculiar to our King;

Angels descend with songs again,

And earth repeat the loud amen!

*APOSTLES’ CREED

I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; the third day He arose from the dead;

He ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen

*HYMN

“The King of Love My Shepherd Is”

Henry Baker / Irish Melody

The King of love my shepherd is,
whose goodness faileth never.

I nothing lack if I am his,
and he is mine forever.

Where streams of living water flow,
my ransomed soul he leadeth;

and where the verdant pastures grow,
with food celestial feedeth.

Perverse and foolish, oft I strayed,
but yet in love he sought me;

and on his shoulder gently laid,
and home, rejoicing, brought me.

In death’s dark vale I fear no ill,
with thee, dear Lord, beside me;

thy rod and staff my comfort still,
thy cross before to guide me.

And so through all the length of days,

thy goodness faileth never;

Good Shepherd, may I sing thy praise

within thy house forever.

ANTHEM

“Empty Now”

Joseph Martin

There is a manger far away
where once a tiny child was laid,

where angels sang and shepherds bowed,

long ago, far away; the manger is empty now.

There is a temple far away
where once a teacher went to pray.

He spoke of truth to an angry crowd,

long ago, far away; the temple is empty now.

There is a cross far away
where once a Lamb for sin was slain.

A crown of thorns adorned His brow;

the cross is empty, the cross is empty now.

There is a tomb far away
where once the Lord of Life was laid.

Come and see His linen shroud.

Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!
The tomb is empty now!

Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

*CLOSING HYMN

“Jesus, Keep Me Near the Cross”

Fanny J. Crosby / William H. Doane

Jesus, keep me near the cross,
there a precious fountain

Free to all, a healing stream,
flows from Calvary’s mountain.

In the cross, in the cross,
be my glory ever,

Till my raptured soul shall find

rest beyond the river.

Near the cross, a trembling soul,

love and mercy found me;

There the bright and Morning Star

sheds its beams around me.

In the cross, in the cross,
be my glory ever,

Till my raptured soul shall find

rest beyond the river.

Near the cross! O Lamb of God,

bring its scenes before me;

Help me walk from day to day

with its shadow o’er me.

In the cross, in the cross,
be my glory ever,

Till my raptured soul shall find

rest beyond the river.

Near the cross I’ll watch and wait,

hoping, trusting ever,

Till I reach the golden strand

just beyond the river.

In the cross, in the cross,
be my glory ever,

Till my raptured soul shall find

rest beyond the river.
