The Big A & the Big O

These are not two separate gifts — they are part of one ministry, where the beauty of God's creation and the hope of the Gospel come together.

Give to the Summer Appeal Every gift helps us care for both the ministry and the place where it flourishes.

As another summer in Ocean Grove draws to a close, children have filled Auditorium Square Park, and the water temperature has finally gone from “freezing” to “refreshing.” We were so thrilled to be fully into the swing of the summer season — and before it slips away, we are writing to ask you to be part of it.

For generations, families have come here for two reasons: to experience the beauty of one of the finest beaches on the New Jersey Shore, and to grow in their faith through a vibrant Christian community. Grow up here, as I did, and those can feel like two wholly separate streams — swim lessons at the North End Pool and singing at Thornley Chapel; rehearsals for the summer play and long afternoons in the sand.

Not two separate gifts

Part of one ministry

Going out for the day meant “going to the Big A” or “going to the Big O” — the Great Auditorium or the ocean. And even today, some may see this choice in Ocean Grove as binary and mutually exclusive. It wasn't until I grew up that I began to understand that these two seemingly separate locations are actually an inextricably tied part of what makes this seaside resort so special.

The same place that welcomes children to ride waves and build sandcastles also invites them to build a foundation of faith. The same shoreline that offers rest, recreation, and renewal becomes a sanctuary where lives are transformed through programs of worship, praise, and fellowship. These are not two separate gifts.

“They are part of one ministry — where the beauty of God's creation and the hope of the Gospel come together to change lives for generations to come.”

Point people to Christ

Programs that cross the east–west barrier

And then there are the many programs that cross the east–west barrier, like Beach Church, Fellowship of Christian Athletes Surf Camp, “Under the Umbrella” Bible Study, baptisms, music performances, and the opportunity for countless conversations that point people to Christ.

In a world that moves at a relentless pace, this ministry provides something increasingly rare: a place where people of every age can slow down, delight in God's creation, deepen relationships, and encounter His presence. Whether someone first arrives because of the beach or because of a church program, our prayer is that all leave refreshed in body, mind, and spirit.

Every gift helps us care for both the ministry and the place where it flourishes:

Outstanding children's programming

Swim lessons, singing, Bible-related crafts, and rehearsals for the summer play.

Meaningful outreach

The opportunity for countless conversations that point people to Christ.

Christ-centered events

Worship, praise, and fellowship, where lives are transformed.

A safe, welcoming beach

The beach that draws tens of thousands of people each summer.

We invite you to give generously to this shared mission today.
